Year 5/6 Woodland Visit - Wednesday, 28th September 2016
Children in Year 5/6 are currently studying Natural Disasters and Outdoor Survival as their topic this term and this includes examining a range of skills that may use if living in a woodland setting.
We are delighted to have been given permission to enter the Howard Estate on Wednesday, 28th September and the teachers have planned a range of activities to support their topic, including:
Building basic shelters using the fallen branches and leaves
Complete basic navigation tasks
Fashion basic ways to catch or trap food and water
Plant identification and classification
We have planned for the children to leave school after morning registration and they will make their way to the woods, returning about 2:00 p.m. in time for the end of the school day.
Please ensure your child brings a packed lunch for the day, a drink bottle, a backpack in which to carry these items and clothing/shoes appropriate for a potentially muddy woodland. This is a non-uniform event due to the nature of the activities involved. A free packed lunch will be supplied for children eligible for free school meals.
As this visit falls under educational visits by foot in and around North Wootton, if you have already completed the annual consent form for this year then no further consent is required. If you have yet to submit your annual consent, then please do so before the end of Tuesday as this is required in order for your child to take part. Further details about the annual consent form were included in our start of term newsletter. Please click HERE to complete if you have yet to do so.
