Year 3/4 (Lower KS2) Curriculum Overview

Having now completed three years of learning within the school, it is now time to move into Key Stage 2 where expectations are a little higher. At the end of Year 2, we will invite all parents in to an awareness session entitle 'Passport to Juniors' to explain what this will look like.

By this time, most pupils have now developed strong basic skills within Reading, Writing and Mathematics. There is now a far greater focus on helping them use these skills more efficiently, fluently and independently across the whole curriculum.

As such, the pupils are asked to use these writing skills in particular more widely across the curriculum in subjects such as History and Geography. However, building upon the work of Key Stage 1, the development of debating and discussion skills are a key aspect of the learning during these two years.

With the pupils having now entered the Juniors, there is a greater focus on the children using these skills as independently as they can and as such we ask parents and carers to support less with the listening of their children's reading and more on ensuring their homework is returned routinely. Developing independence during these two years is such a key element of success during lower Key Stage 2.
